Those who gave their lives from Yarm ______________________________________

WATSON, John. Gunner 20106 46th Bde RFA.

Return to Yarm Roll Call

The following was taken from the Yorkshire Regiment website

Died of wounds 4 May 1917. He was born at Hutton Rudby and enlisted at Darlington. Bucquoy Road Cem, France – I E 16. [This identification is not certain since no home address is given. The Memorial lists a Gnr John H Watson but there are not John H’s in Soldiers Died for the Royal Artillery and the Commission have no record of such a name either. On balance this man appears to be the right one and certainly he is not on either Darlington’s or Hutton Rudby’s Roll.

Yarm1914 believe that John Honeyman Watson was born in 1890 in Hutton Rudby near Yarm. His mother Mary Ann Honeyman was born in 1869 in Hutton Rudby and married John Watson from Wolviston in 1888. By 1891 they had son John and daughter Emily J had just been born but aged 23 John died and the family broke up. In 1901 John H was living in Salter House, Wolviston with his fathers parents Michael and Mary Watson. He moved to Yarm to become a chemical factory labourer and lived in Bridge Street with his mothers family Jane Honeyman aged 69 and by now a widow, her son William aged 29 also working as a labourer in the chemical factory and her granddaughter Rose Honeyman aged 15. He married Annie M Proctor in 1914 and his war records indicate that he left a wife Annie M and child.
