YARM 1914 CANDLELIT VIGIL - 4 August 2104

Yarm Cenotaph, High Street, Yarm

On the 4th August, about 2,000 people in Yarm joined with thousands of others across the UK to mark the declaration of war exactly 100 years ago at 11.00pm. Poppies made by local people under the direction of local glass artist, Judith Gill formed the centre piece of teh vigil. The stands were made at the workshop in Kirklevington Prison by talented prisoners.

At 11.00pm Peter Monck the chairman of Yarm 1914 extinguised the final candle in memory of his grandfather.
